Samsons eyes have just been gouged out by the Philistines ,they have bound him in fetters and are rejoicing. Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto dagon, their god, and to rejoice; for they said our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.
1. What are the enemies of God rejoicing at here?
2.Who were they giving thanks to?
3.Had God really delivered Samson over to them?
And Samson called unto the Lord and said O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me only this once, O God,that I may be avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes;
1.In the midst of hopelessness, what did Samson offer to God?
2. What kind of faith did this show?
3. Did He still know who His God was even in defeat?
4. Did He still trust Him?
And the house fell upon the Philistines, and upon all the people that were therin. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.
1. Did God hear Samsons prayer?
2. How did He answer Samson?
3. Did God give Samson victory, how?
4.Who really had the final word?
5. Did the enemies of God, the Philistines, have the last word?
The Philistines are rejoicing because they feel they have won a great victory . Finally capturing their enemy who has killed so many of them.Now they want to make sport of him , and torture him, they are sure the final victory is theirs. All seems hopeless but Samson still has faith, and doesn't believe God has forsaken him. Samson prays to God and God allows him a final victory to destroy more of Gods enemies than when Samson had full sight and strength. Sometimes it seems that in battle, we are given over to our enemies hands, but really we are in Gods hands all along. And they are stronger than our enemies hands, much stronger. Sometimes we may be given over as Christians, to the point that they are even rejoicing like the Philistines, sure of victory . But God never forsakes us and will allow an even greater victory because of our obedience . He only allows them to rejoice so He can raise up an even higher standard to defeat His enemies. In battle, our eyes have to stay on Gods faithfulness, His triumph in every situation, especially when His children are captured in battle. Do not stay fixed on the gloating of the enemy, he looses, and we never will loose with Jesus.
