1 Corinthians 3:10-12

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;.

1. Who is the only true foundation for our lives?

2.Are there false foundations we can lay?

3. What happens to a faulty foundation when built upon?

4.Why is it so important to have a rock solid foundation?

5. Who is the foundation?

Matthew 7:24-26

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:. 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:.

1.How do the wise build their house upon solid rock?

2. When trials come what happens to the wise mans house?

3. What do the foolish fail to do when building their house?

4.What happens to the foolish mans house?

5. What does our "house" represent?

6. What does the "rock" represent?

Matthew 13:35

35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

1.What things have been kept secret from the foundation of the world?

2.What does it mean the foundation of the world?

Revelation 13:8

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

1.Jesus was slain from the foundation of the world [the beginning], He was the secret.

Romans 15:20

Yea, so I have strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another mans foundation.

Ephesians 2:20

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ the corner stone.

1.With whom are we fellow citizens now?

2. Of what household do we belong?

3.Upon what foundation are we built upon?

4.Who else built upon this foundation?

5. Who is the corner stone and our foundation?

1 Timothy 6:19

Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

1.When we follow Jesus what are we laying up for ourselves?

2. What will we be able to do even in this life then?

2 Timothy 2:19

Never the less the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that are His.

1.What is the foundation of God that standeth sure?

2.What is the seal of that promise?

3. What marks us as His very own?

Hebrews 12:28

Wherefore we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.

1.What are we receiving from God when we become Christians?

2. Can this kingdom be shaken or moved?

3. Gods throne, Gods church , Gods kingdom which cannot be moved is ours forever.

4. What kind of confidence and trust should that instill in us as believers?

5.Who can change God? We have a rock solid foundation in that alone.

6. No one can shake Gods throne, and we are his very own, He has given us the kingdom , nothing can separate us from this, so we are unshakeable in Him.

Isaiah 28:16

Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone,a sure foundation; He that believeth shall not make haste.

1.Who is the precious corner stone?

2. Is Jesus our sure foundation?

1Peter 2:8

And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence even to them which stumble at His word, being disobedient whereunto also they were appointed. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; but are now the people of God; which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

1.To whom did Jesus become a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence?

2.What is Jesus now to us? A sure foundation!

3.With Jesus as our foundation, how does God see us now?

4. What have we obtained now from God that we did not have before?

5.What kind of generation are we now?

6.How does God describe us as a priesthood, a nation, a people?

Any foundation that we build, [anything we trust instead of Jesus], can be shaken and torn down by this world. If God has not put it there it can be ruined and destroyed, it is in the enemies hands. We can invent foundations, or even learn from others what to put trust in. But we see from the word that they will only last for a season, and then are gone. Jesus and the word are the only foundations of our lives that will last forever. Even the trials and the lessons we go through that are from God He will use to build on the foundation of Christ to give us growth in him and godly character. But all these things built on any other foundation will have no where secure to grow and endure.
