“Really?” he answers. “So, does this mean you don’t believe Jesus is God?”
“That’s right,” you reply. “The Bible teaches that Jehovah is one God in one person.”
“But what about the prophecy of Isaiah 9:6? It says this about Jesus: ‘For a child has been born to us, A son has been given to us; And the rulership will rest on his shoulder. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of peace.’”
“That’s correct,” you say. “Jesus is a god, just as Satan is called ‘the god of this system of things’ in 2 Corinthians 4:4. That is, he is a created being; ‘mighty god,’ yes, but not Almighty God Jehovah.”
“But” he responds “Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus ‘sustains all things
by the word of his power.’ How could anyone be more almighty than that? Jesus literally holds together every atom in the universe! Also, he tells his disciples at the end of Matthew ‘All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth.1’ This is the very definition of the word almighty!
“Besides all this,” he continues, “Jehovah is very clearly referred to as ‘mighty God’ in the Old Testament. Isaiah 10:20-21 says ‘those remaining over of Israel…will certainly support themselves upon Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, in trueness. A mere remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the Mighty God.’ Also, Jeremiah 32:18 says ‘the true God, the great and mighty One, whose name is Jehovah of armies.’ And I’ve been quoting your own New World Translation!”
“But I just couldn’t believe in the Trinity,” you answer. Go to page 5.
